Western Oregon Hires Campbell

May 18, 2017

Western Oregon University has hired Curtis Campbell as its new athletic director. Campbell is the current director of Athletics at NCAA Division II institution Tuskegee University in Alabama.
Campbell boasts 17 years of experience in intercollegiate athletics at both the D-II and D-III levels and has overseen multiple athletic construction projects. In addition to his time at Tuskegee University, he has served as athletic director at Stillman College in Alabama and Blackburn College in Illinois.
Campbell is active in NCAA governance as a current member of the D-II Management Council and D-II Planning and Finance Committee. Formerly, he served four years on the D-II Legislation Committee.
"Curtis is the perfect fit to lead Western Oregon University Athletics," said President Rex Fuller. "Not only has he worked extensively with the NCAA at the Division II level and supervised capital construction projects, but we know he will continue our tradition of supporting both academic success and athletic excellence."
Campbell is a U.S. Army veteran, having served as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne immediately after high school. He received his bachelor's degree in social work from Longwood University and earned his master's in student affairs administration from Radford University in Virginia.
"I am extremely excited to join the staff at Western Oregon University," Campbell said. "I look forward to working with the coaches, staff, student-athletes, alums and fans to build on the successes of WOU athletics. I would like to thank President Fuller and the search committee for this opportunity."
Campbell will replace Barbara Dearing, who is slated to retire June 30 after four years as athletic director. Campbell's first day will be July 1. His wife and son Cagan will join him in Oregon in the summer of 2018, after Cagan graduates high school. Their older son, Caleb, is in the Navy.
