Teams Swap Fields

June 26, 2018

On August 22, the Chicago Bears will trade practice fields with Vernon Hills (Ill.) High School. According to the Journal Review, the Vernon Hills football team will practice in the Bears' Walter Payton Indoor Facility, while the Bears will practice at the Vernon Hills field that night. About 5,000 free tickets will be available for the Bears' practice.

“Kids will be able to walk from their homes to Vernon Hills High School and watch the Bears practice,” Brian McDonald, Vernon Hills' Athletic Director, said. “It’s a cool opportunity that doesn’t come around very often, and we’re excited to provide that opportunity to our community.”

Joey Iyiegbuniwe, a rookie linebacker for the Bears, is one of several players who live in Vernon Hills.

"I like the area so far, pretty nice," Iyiegbuniwe said. "I wish it was a few minutes close [to Halas Hall], but it's a good spot for me and a lot of the guys."
