Rose to Assist NJCAA

November 9, 2018

The NJCAA is pleased to announce UNC Charlotte Athletic Director Emeritus, Judy Rose to its staff as a consultant. Rose recently retired from UNC Charlotte after 43 years, including 28 as the university's athletic director.

"Our association is very excited to have Mrs. Rose working with our team," stated NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker. "Her knowledge of the Charlotte community and her ability to assist us in establishing our NJCAA Foundation, as well as many other initiatives that will afford us an amazing opportunity," Parker added.

The NJCAA, which is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization opened its headquarters in Charlotte, NC in August 2018. The association is currently developing a foundation board to help the organization solidify funds that support its mission. These funds will be used to support nearly 60,000 student-athletes annually through its over 500 member colleges across the country who participate in two-year college athletics.

A pioneer in collegiate athletics, Rose became just the third female to be named Athletic Director of an NCAA Division I program in 1990. Rose's numerous initiatives throughout a decorated career include the honor of the first female to serve on the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Committee. Rose also served as President of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) from 2003-04. Throughout her time in the Charlotte community, Rose has helped to attract national sporting events to the local area, including the 1994 NCAA Men's Basketball Final Four, the 1996 NCAA Women's Basketball Final Four, the 1999 and 2000 NCAA Men's Soccer College Cups. The 49ers' program saw unprecedented growth under Rose's tutelage, including $100 million in athletic facilities.

Rose will work directly with NJCAA President & CEO Dr. Christopher Parker on developing opportunities for individuals and companies to invest in and support the NJCAA's foundational efforts on a national, regional, and local basis.

"This spring, after I announced my retirement plans," stated Rose, "I was contacted by Dr. Parker expressing interest in me serving as a consultant to the organization as they were in the process of moving their national headquarters from Colorado to Charlotte and I have now officially agreed to assist them in their endeavors. I strongly support their mission, as the NJCAA is the second largest national intercollegiate athletic organization in the U.S., second only to the NCAA."

"We look forward to a bright and successful future with Mrs. Rose assisting our organization and together, we will all make a positive difference," Parker added.  To Judy, education and athletics are at the core of her interests and she firmly believes there is tremendous value in having the national headquarters of the NJCAA in the Charlotte community."
