In North Dakota, unruly fan behavior has led to some high schools updating rules of conduct for their events. About a month ago, Julie Colemer, Athletic Director at Sargent Central School, in Forman, N.D., issued a notice that a yellow card-red card system would be enforced at games.

According to a report from WDAY-6, with this system, an unruly fan would be given a red card on a second warning. This would result in automatically being ejected from the game. Since then, Colemer hasn’t issued any cards.

“We just really reiterated that we are going to follow through on this, and it’s been much, much better,” Colemer said.

Although the majority of issues have stemmed from fans, the student-athletes are also reminded to maintain sportsmanship. At Shanley High School, in Fargo, N.D., the school reminds its students about their behavior at sporting events.

“Kind of like keep it to yourself and remember that we represent Shanley wherever we go,” Zach Sandy, a Shanley freshman who plays hockey and baseball, said.
