Life-Saving Donation

November 21, 2018

Last week, Greg Cooper, Athletic Director of Canfield (Ohio) High School, left the hospital a month after receiving a part of wrestling coach David Crawford's liver.

According to WYTV, after returning home, Cooper received visits from well-wishers, including Crawford.

"How do you thank somebody who literally gives you the gift of life?" Cooper said.

Crawford, who had been a match for Cooper, said that Cooper “needed something and I could do it and I was able to do it and we got it done." By helping Cooper find a donor within a few months, Crawford helped ensure a more favorable outcome for Cooper.

"I don't think I'm a hero,” Crawford said. “You've got guys like Greg who served the country, you've got military veterans out there. I think they're more heroes than I am.”

Crawford said that he's glad that Cooper's life was extended.

"And the chance that he can have many more holidays with his family and spend that time, that's what's important," Crawford said.

Cooper said he is grateful to those who have helped him.

"I can't help but get misty-eyed when I think about how people have done so much for me and for my family," Cooper said.
