Dave Bliss Hired

August 3, 2017

Calvary Chapel Christian School in Las Vegas has drawn controversy by hiring Dave Bliss to serve as its athletic director and boys' basketball coach. Bliss is the former Head Men's Basketball Coach at Baylor University and Southwestern Christian University.

According to the Las Vegas Review Journal, Bliss resigned from Baylor University in 2003 after one of his players, Patrick Dennehy, was murdered by a teammate, Carlton Dotson. He coached at Southwestern Christian University, an NAIA school in Bethany, Okla., the past two years before resigning in April.

September Wilson, a coach and teacher for Calvary Chapel, said she had done research into Bliss's background, and felt “absolutely” comfortable with hiring him, as well as allowing her daughter to attend his basketball camp.

“There’s a great documentary he’s put out there on his testimony, and that is the one thing everybody needs to see right now,” Wilson said. “That he’s a man of Christ.”
