Coach Resigns

January 10, 2019

On Wednesday, Christian Hunnicutt announced he would resign from his job as Head Football Coach at Grayson High School in Logansville, Ga. Over two seasons, he compiled a 20-5 record and took the team to the state quarterfinals in 2018. However, he made headlines last August when, days before the school's opener, some players boycotted practice, saying it was too grueling, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

While the conflict was resolved, and the team went on to win its region, with Hunnicutt voted the Region 8-A coach of the year by his peers, underlying problems remained.

“There are just some outside influences, things on the periphery, that make that job difficult,” Hunnicutt said. “Every head coaching job is hard, but there’s a lot of moving parts outside the field house and outside the campus. It’s just a difficult deal.’’

Hunnicutt said the resignation was a mutual decision between him and the school.

“First of all, I harbor no ill will toward anyone at Grayson,” Hunnicutt said. “I want the school to be successful and the football team to be successful. I have the utmost respect for Dr. Dana Pugh (the principal) and Brian DeBerry (the athletic director). I certainly appreciate the opportunity they gave me, and they are unbelievable administrators and incredible leaders, and they’ll continue to keep the Grayson machine rolling.’’
