Celebrating D-III

April 3, 2018

The Goucher College Department of Athletics will be celebrating all things NCAA Division III this week (April 2-9), as the Gophers have several events planned throughout the week on-campus and in social media.

NCAA Division III week is part of Division III's Identity Initiative, which was introduced in 2010 to sharpen the division's identity and to enable schools and conferences to more effectively explain why they prefer to compete in Division III.

The initiative has been guided by a strategic-positioning platform, describing Division III as a place where student-athletes can "follow your passions and develop your potential," within an approach that combines rigorous academics, competitive sports and an opportunity to pursue other interests.

Goucher's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) has events planned every day this week! Here is the full calendar:

Monday, April 2nd: Life of a D3 Student-Athlete

  • Using their Instagram account (@gouchercollegesaac), Goucher's SAAC representative will be posting pictures throughout the day of different student-athletes sharing their experiences of being an NCAA Division III student-athlete.

Tuesday, April 3rd: Donuts for D3 Week

  • From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., we'll be not only offering some Colossal Donuts, but also sharing a video piece sharing why they play a Division III sport.

Wednesday, April 4th: Landmark Conference Gear Day

  • From where ever you are around the country or world, we'd like for you to show off your Goucher Gopher gear in celebration of Landmark Conference Gear Day! Be sure to use the #LCGearDay on both Twitter and Instagram when posting!

Thursday, April 5th: Ice Cream Cups

  • Enjoy vanilla and chocolate ice cream cups in the SRC from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., while also checking out a video of Goucher student-athletes sharing their experiences both on and off the field

Friday, April 6th: Cookies and Conversation

  • Even more treats will be available on Friday in the SRC from noon to 1 p.m., as both chocolate chip and Oreo cookies will be served as you watch another video of Division III student-athletes sharing their experiences.

Saturday, April 7th: Goucher Women's Tennis Snapchat Takeover

  • The Goucher women's tennis team heads north to Scranton on Saturday for a Landmark Conference match-up, and junior Miranda Egan-Brooks will take over Goucher College's Snapchat account for the entire day.

Monday, April 9th: Goucher Landmark Conference Instagram Takeover

  • On the final day of Division III week, junior Nicole Wolard of the women's basketball team will takeover the Landmark Conference's Instagram account (@landmarkconference) for the entire day.

Also, throughout the week, we will be posting several student-athlete profiles on our website athletics.goucher.edu and on Instagram @gouchergophers.
